·

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears confident in securing power at the center for the third consecutive time. Notably, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, aims to win 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. To achieve this target, BJP’s focus lies on delivering a superior performance in states where opposition parties hold sway.

Current Political Landscape

Currently, the Congress party holds governments in three states: Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. Additionally, in Jharkhand, Congress has formed a coalition government with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party governs in Delhi and Punjab.

Congress’s Dwindling Prospects in Himachal Pradesh

Recent surveys by India Today indicate a potential setback for the Congress party in Himachal Pradesh. According to the survey, Congress is struggling to make significant headway in the state where it currently holds power.

BJP’s Potential in Himachal Pradesh

The survey suggests that the BJP stands a chance to secure all four Lok Sabha seats in the mountainous state. In terms of vote share, the BJP is projected to garner 60%, while Congress trails at 29%. An additional 11% of votes are expected to go to other parties. This survey outcome signals a potential blow to the Congress party.

Historical Context

In the 2019 elections, the BJP had decisively defeated Congress in Himachal Pradesh, despite the latter holding power in the state. In the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Congress managed to secure 40 seats, forming the government, while the BJP was limited to just 25 seats, with the remaining seats going to other parties.
