NHAI to Deactivate FASTags with Incomplete KYC by January 31, 2024

NHAI is set to enhance toll collection efficiency by deactivating FASTags with incomplete KYC by January 31, 2024. This move aligns with the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative aimed at optimizing toll plaza operations.

To comply with NHAI’s directive and ensure uninterrupted services, FASTag users must complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) process by the January 31 deadline. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy discourages using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles, promoting a more organized toll collection system.

NHAI emphasizes the need for users to discard previously issued FASTags through their respective banks, ensuring only the latest FASTag remains active. Any tags not adhering to this guideline will be deactivated or blacklisted post-January 31, 2024.

In line with RBI guidelines, NHAI aims to address issues of multiple FASTags issued for one vehicle or a single FASTag being used across multiple vehicles. This strategic move seeks to streamline the FASTag ecosystem and improve overall toll plaza efficiency.

FASTag users encountering issues or seeking clarification can reach out to toll plazas or their issuer banks’ toll-free customer care numbers. The aim is to provide assistance and ensure a seamless transition to the updated toll collection system.

Delays at toll plazas have been observed due to non-compliance with guidelines, including deliberate misplacement of FASTags. With a penetration rate of around 98% and over 8 crore users, FASTag has revolutionized toll collection. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative aims to further refine operations, ensuring hassle-free journeys for all national highway users.
