Indian Student Neel Acharya Found Dead, Purdue University Mourns

The Purdue University community is in shock following the tragic death of Neel Acharya, an Indian student pursuing a double major in computer science and data science. Acharya had been missing since Sunday, and his body was later discovered on the university campus.

The Purdue Exponent reported that the interim head of the computer science department, Chris Clifton, informed students and faculty of Acharya’s passing. Describing him as a “driven individual and academically talented,” Clifton expressed condolences, stating that it’s a “real loss to our community.” Acharya’s LinkedIn profile indicates that he completed his schooling in Pune and joined Purdue in 2022. His friend and roommate, Aryan Khanolkar, remembered him as a “loving, charismatic soul.”

The Purdue Exponent also mentioned that Clifton received confirmation of Acharya’s death from the Office of the Dean of Students. The heartbreaking incident has left the community mourning the loss of a promising student.

Neel Acharya’s mother, Gaury, sought help on Twitter when he went missing, mentioning that he was last seen being dropped off at the campus by an Uber driver. The tragic turn of events unfolded swiftly, confirming Acharya’s demise.

This sorrowful incident follows the recent brutal murder of another Indian student, Vivek Saini, in Georgia. The Purdue University community and Acharya’s family now grapple with the pain of losing a bright young individual.
